Philip RaskinPhilip was born in Glasgow in 1947 and lived there until 2002 when with wife, three children and cat they moved to the small town of Strathaven about fifteen miles south of the big city and in the heart of the country.
He has always loved painting and attended the Glasgow School of Art having intended a career with the brushes, but after his father died suddenly he left after two years to go into business.
Philip spent many years as a restaurateur and his establishment doubled up as a gallery, so he never lost touch with art and artists. But all that is behind him now and he has returned full time to his first love.
After a lay off of thirty years or so, his work is still developing but the maturity of years is a definite bonus.
Philip works in acrylics on deep profile canvases which he thinks are a wonderful innovation.
His palette is generally soft and the subject matter leans towards the land and seascape but is progressing rapidly towards figurative composition. He started off painting portraits many years ago and will hopefully return to that genre as his confidence grows.
